4 years ago this April, meningitis struck the Northern Colorado community when Sierra Krizman became ill with what she and her family thought was the flu. On April 10, 2007, the Krizman family’s worst nightmare came true. Sierra was hospitalized for what they now know was bacterial meningitis and lost her battle at the age of 20. Sierra’s Race Against Meningitis has one mission: to prevent meningitis. With this mission, the annual 5K race was organized to raise funds to sponsor free vaccination clinics all over the state. To this day, Sierra’s foundation has vaccinated over 1100 people, thanks to all the support from the race.
