BigCommerce and JavaScript
A lot of our custom BigCommerce clients and potential clients want customization that require us to do some pretty drastic things in development. Which is awesome! For most customization there aren’t any problems, but there are times where we’ll have to use JavaScript techniques in order to do what is needed to get the look or functionality requested.
The thing to keep in mind with us using JavaScript in BigCommerce to do customization, is that it requires the user to have JavaScript enabled — once a user without JS hits a highly custom site it’s possible that their entire browsing experience will be much different.
Therefore, clients need to understand that it’s possible that some of the people visiting the custom BigCommerce site (that don’t have JavaScript enabled) won’t be able to view it properly or even have it function properly in some areas where JavaScript is used.
Only roughly 5% of users don’t use JavaScript.
