Internet Tax
Budget shortfalls around the country have many state governments rethinking internet taxes, Colorado being one. As a way of shoring up tax deficits Governor Ritter is preparing such a proposal, but instituting a taxing system on internet sales can be tricky and job killing thing. Other states have attempting it with little success.
The problem is, once a state has established an internet taxing program the businesses in that state begin to see a drop off of internet sales. Consumers simple favor websites that don’t charge sales tax and therefore it becomes an unleveled playing field for web businesses forced to compete in such states. For many businesses it means eating the tax themselves in order to remain competitive. Therefore, internet tax plans run be the states are nothing more than tax increase on small business.
